As the sun glorified Halifax with its presence, Shads were waking up with excitement as the group was preparing for a warm day at the beach and a trip to Peggy’s Cove. We awoke quite early, ate breakfast and headed to the bus. We yelled our usual count-off (I am number seventeen) to check if everyone was present and we were then on our way. We started the day with a drive to Rainbow Haven beach near Cole Harbour, which was exciting for Sidney Crosby fans (like me) who were hoping for a glance at the hockey superstar. We spent the morning throwing Frisbees®, playing volleyball, tossing footballs, kicked soccer balls and swam in the freezing, yet refreshing Atlantic Ocean. Although the water really quenched our heat, the taste of the salt on our lips was not appealing! After basking in the summer sun of Rainbow Haven beach, we were off to the scenic Peggy’s Cove. Home to the iconic lighthouse, jagged rocks, and gushing ocean waters, Peggy’s Cove became an enchanting backdrop for photography. The ice cream and fudge at the local gift shop just topped it off! At this point, all of the Shads were becoming quite exhausted and we boarded the bus to go back to Dalhousie. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a quick recap of the day and the aroma of freshly baked pizza. We relaxed for a while and the events committee alerted us of the night’s event. They had organized a pajama and movie night! As the evening drew to a close, the sun set over the Halifax sky and the sleepy Shads drifted off to sleep after an exciting day of adventure.
