July 4th

It was 1:30 AM on July 4th when the majority of us UW Shads trudged sleepily back to our campsite at Bruce Peninsula National Park. Late night stargazing had left us all exhausted, we were ready for a good night’s sleep.

After we awoke, we were served a simple but enjoyable breakfast by House 3. It was then time to pack up and take down the tents. This proved to be quite easy, with one exception, squishing that huge 8-man tent into that tiny, tiny bag! Once all bags were packed, and all tents were disassembled, we further explored the campgrounds. I, along with the other Shads, enjoyed the scenic route as we headed to Cyprus Lake. While at the beach, some Shads enjoyed water Frisbee, while others simply relaxed. This was short-lived as we, House 2, were responsible for preparing lunch. We headed back to camp where we not only prepared lunch but created a unique dining experience for the other Shads in the form of the “2-good cafe.” We even went as far as fanning and massaging them while they waited in line.

After lunch it was time to head back to Conrad Grebel residence, our new home. Three and a half hours of iPod swaps, card games, conversations and naps later, we arrived at the university. Then, like a herd of rhinoceroses we charged towards the showers, it was then time for supper. Later we had a very interesting session with Engineers Without Borders, followed by community time. It was an enjoyable day, just like every other day here at Shad.
